Alan L. “Big Al” Hoffman, 70, of 137 Pine St., Lewisburg, passed away Friday, October 3, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born April 28, 1944 in Lewisburg, a son of the late Fred Warren and Elizabeth Pauline (Yost) Hoffman. On September 8, 1964 he married the former Beverly Ann Boughter, who survives. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Alan was a 1963 graduate of Lewisburg High School. Following graduation he served six years in the National Guard. Alan worked as an insurance agent for Erie Insurance from 1969 to 2011, where his achievements earned him several Founders Awards.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg.
Alan took pride in belonging to the boy scouts earlier in life and earned recognition by receiving the Silver American Eagle Scout Award in 2002. He enjoyed cooking, golfing and traveling, especially to Jamaica. Alan also loved attending family sporting events and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Jeff Benner, of Lewisburg; a grandson, Zack Benner, of Lewisburg; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Gene Hoffman, of Lewisburg and Fred Jr. and Shelley Hoffman, of Mifflinburg; and numerous nieces.
In addition to parents, he was predeceased by a nephew, Fred Hoffman III.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 19, at the Faith Lutheran Church, 2349 Old Turnpike Rd., Lewisburg, with his minister, Pastor Gregory Kramer, presiding, assisted by Rev. James Taylor, SUN Home Hospice Chaplain.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made to either SUN Home Hospice, 61 Duke St., P. O. Box 232, Northumberland, PA 17857 or to Faith Lutheran Church, 2349 Old Turnpike Rd., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
