Alice Grace Hassenplug, 98, of Lewisburg and formerly of Mifflinburg, passed away on November 18, 2015 at Riverwoods, Lewisburg.
Alice was born November 18, 1917 in Philadelphia, the adopted daughter of the late Carl H. and Henrietta (Stevenson) Hassenplug, formerly of Mifflinburg. After Henrietta’s passing in 1922, Alice’s father married Ida Mae Sortman. Alice continued to reside in Mifflinburg until the passing of her mother, Ida Mae.
Alice was a 1935 graduate of Mifflinburg High School. She worked numerous jobs during World War II and later took a job at the former Laurelton Center as executive secretary to the administrator where she worked for numerous administrators during her tenure. After retirement from the Center, she moved to Lewisburg.
Alice was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, where she spent many years as a member of the choir because of her love of music and singing.
Alice is survived by two nephews, Kim Oberdorf and his wife, Janeen, of Lewisburg and their children, Kyle James and his wife Shawna of Liverpool, NY and Brad Richard and his fiancé Christy Hulsizer, and her son, Cayden, of Sunbury, and Max Oberdorf, of Lewisburg and his children, Courtney, Damon, Briana and Fynn, and Max’s three grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, William; and a sister and brother-in-law, Miriam and James Oberdorf.
Friends will be received from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1050 Buffalo Rd., Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Paula M. Gustafson, officiating.
Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery, Mifflinburg.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Alice’s name be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1050 Buffalo Rd, Lewisburg, PA 17837 or to a charity of one’s choice.
A special thank you to the staff of B-wing at Riverwoods for the wonderful care provided to Alice while she lived there.
