Alverda J. Brouse, 95, formerly of 919 Buffalo Rd., Lewisburg, died Tuesday February 24, at Riverwoods, Lewisburg.
She was born February 6, 1920, in Winfield, a daughter of the late George F. and Sallie E. (Kline) Brouse.
Alverda was a 1938 graduate of Lewisburg High School and Thompson Business School, Harrisburg. She then received her BFA degree from the Abbott School of fine and Commercial Art and The American University.
She was employed for 13 years by the federal government in Washington, D.C., working in Treasury-Procurement, Commerce and the Executive Office. She then returned to Lewisburg to work in the family business, Brouse Construction, for many years.
Alverda was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, serving on various committees. She was a past Matron and former district deputy of the Lewisburg Chapter #394 Order of the Eastern Star, a past Worthy High Priestess and former Instructor of Messiah Shrine 44, Order of the White Shrine, Northumberland, and received the Grand Cross of Color from the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was also an active member of the Lewisburg Hospital Auxiliary, AARP, Ramblers Club mixers group and did volunteer work at Riverwoods.
Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Ruth Brouse, of Lewisburg; eight nieces, three nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, John H. and D. Clayton Brouse; and one sister, Helen (Brouse) Crow.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1050 Buffalo Rd., Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m., with her pastor, the Rev. Paula M. Gustafson, officiating. An Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 9:30 a.m. prior to the visitation.
Burial will follow in Lewisburg Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Alverda’s name be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1050 Buffalo Rd., Lewisburg, PA 17837 or to a charity of one’s choice.
The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St. Lewisburg.
