Barbara Joy Byers

April 14, 1929 — May 3, 2018

Barbara Joy Byers, 89, a longtime resident of Watsontown, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Watsontown Health and Rehab Center.

She was born April 14, 1929 in Goosetown, a daughter of the late Boise Penrose and Lillian Frances (Johe) Bair.

Barbara was a graduate of the former Watsontown High School.  She spent most of her life raising and caring for her family.  Later in life, she worked as a cook at the former Kramm’s Nursing Home, Watsontown.

Barbara formerly attended First Lutheran Church, Watsontown.

Surviving are five children, Freeman Wayne Byers, of West Middlesex, Harry Lee Byers and his wife, Candace, of Watsontown, Richard Eugene Byers and his wife, Kimberly, of Rochester, NY, Ann Marie Goff and her husband, William, of New Columbia, and Kathy Lou Johnson and her husband, Kevin, of Turbotville; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, James Bair; and two daughters-in-law, Mary Frances Byers and Evelyn Mae Byers.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no viewing.

The family is planning a graveside service to be held Wednesday, May 9 in Watsontown Cemtery at 11 a.m.

The family suggests contributions in Barbara’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, online at www.alz.org.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St. Watsontown.
