Betty J. Dugan, 89, of 57 Heatherbrooke Estates, Muncy, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Muncy Valley Hospital.
Born May 15, 1925 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Edward and Harriet (Zarr) Carpenter. On June 8, 1943 she married Byron M. Dugan, who preceded her in death Mar. 14, 2012.
Betty was a 1943 graduate of Muncy High School, where she was the head Majorette.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Clarkstown. Betty was also a member of the Edward J. Smith Post 3428 VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Roland Ritter American Legion Post 268 Ladies Auxiliary.
In her spare time, Betty was a volunteer at the Muncy Valley Hospital and worked part time as a florist at the former Bryfogles. She was an avid reader and seamstress and enjoyed crocheting.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James B. and Diane Dugan, of Saskatoon-Saskatchewan, Canada; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Diane Dugan, of Harrisburg, Sharon Bitler, of Clarkstown , Mary Lee and Wayne Ettinger, of Montoursville, Loretta J. and Walter VanNuys, of Selinsgrove and Julie and Harold Miller, of Greenville, SC; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Melvin and William Carpenter; a sister, Virginia Carpenter and a step sister, Linda Jacobs.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2041 State Rt. 442, Clarkstown, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Beverly Cotner, officiating.
Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Muncy Public Library, 108 S. Main St., Muncy, PA 17756.
