Carl Eugene Miller Sr., 88, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born May 26, 1931 in Forksville, he was the last surviving child of the late John E. Miller, Sr. and Bessie (Norton) Miller. On June 8, 1950 he married the former Delores DuFour, who survives. Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Carl was a graduate of Sullivan County High School, where he participated in the High School Basketball State Championship. At the age of 15, he began working by washing windows at the Forksville General Store. He then worked at the former Baumick Saw Mill, Forksville. Carl retired from Linton, formerly Sylvania, Williamsport, after 43 years.
He was a former member of Bottle Run Presbyterian Church. Carl was a member of the John F. Laedlin Lodge 707 F & AM, Williamsport, the Zafar and Rafaz clubs, So. Williamsport and a former member of the Edward J. Smith Post 3428 V.F.W., Muncy and the Loyal Order of Moose #866, Muncy Valley.
Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, playing horseshoes and dancing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Carl Eugene Jr. and Shirley Miller, of Bellwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Joseph Monroe Stroup Jr., of Muncy; five grandchildren, Michael Miller, Michelle Hull, Sharon Miller, Joseph Stroup III and Christine Stroup; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by seven brothers, Charles, Emery John, Francis, Floyd, Elmer, Lloyd and Fred Miller and one sister, Edna Umpstead.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Thomas Brokaw, UPMC Chaplain, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville.
