Carmela G. Kauffman

Carmela G. Kauffman, 79, of Lewisburg went to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her family Tuesday, March 17, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

She was born May 21, 1935 in Pittston, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Grace (Sberna) Giunta. She and her husband, C. William Kauffman, Jr. were married 27 years before his death January 20, 1987.

Carmela was a 1953 graduate of Lewisburg High School and a graduate of Wilkes Business School. She processed clerical work at Champion Shoe for many years. Earlier in life she worked at Meixell Insurance, Lewisburg.

Carmela was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lewisburg, where she was also a member of the Council of Catholic Women.

She enjoyed cooking. Most of all Carmela loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert W. Kauffman, of State College and James W. Kauffman and Cynthia Cronrath, of Bloomsburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Concetta M. and Duane Hilkert, of Danville and Cristina E. Kauffman, of Lewisburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Angelo and JoAnn Giunta, of Lewisburg; two sisters, Mary Grace Bentlage, of Milton and Angeline Staib, of Muncy; and seven grandchildren, Mark, Maria, Joanna, Laura and Luke Hilkert and Kael and Rhys Kauffman.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Sara Amico and Michalena; and three brothers-in-law, Robert Staib, Rudolf Bentlage and Louis Amico.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg, where a rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. recited by Eileen Pannell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church, 41 S. Eighth St., Lewisburg, with her pastor, the Rev. Msgr. William Richardson, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
