Carol M. Pittenger

Carol M. Pittenger, 86, of Muncy, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 at her daughter’s home in Spring Mills.

She was born December 10, 1938 in Liberty the daughter of the late William F. and Dorothy M. (Loudenslager) Cropp. On November 26, 1959 she married Harley R. Pittenger who predeceased her on April 2, 2023. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Carol was a 1956 graduate of Liberty High School and 1960 graduate of Lycoming College. She worked as a fourth grade teacher at the old Pennsdale School until it closed. Carol then worked at Muncy’s Ward L. Myers Elementary school where she retired in 1993.

She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Muncy. Carol was also a member of the Muncy Women’s Club and the West Branch Chorale where she enjoyed trips to Europe through the years. She also worked with Jim Bryden to bring musical shows to the area. Following retirement, Carol volunteered for over 20 years at the Muncy Valley Skilled Nursing Unit, now Muncy Place.

She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening and listening to music. Carol’s family was most important as she served as a Matriarch to the family. She loved traveling to sporting and school events for three generations from her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carol is survived by two children, Steve (Pam) Pittenger, of Danville and Melanie (John Hurst) Bernier, of Spring Mills; four grandchildren, Alaire Wood, Alyssa (Aaron) Cole, Derek (Joli) Bernier and Bryan Bernier; and seven great-grandchildren, Brycen, Ashton, Ava, Kailan, Ryla, Bodie and Kailey.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, William “Dick” Cropp.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2025 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Muncy, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with her pastor Rev. Ben Lander, officiating.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Carol’s memory be made to the church.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble Funeral Home, 121 S. Main St. Muncy.
