Charles L. Wertz, 83, of White Deer Pike, died Friday, June 17, 2016 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born September 29, 1932 in White Deep Twp., the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Hackenberg) Wertz. Charles and his wife, the former Sue A. Wesner, were married January 22, 1951 and recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Charles attended Watsontown High school and was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He drove truck for Preston Motor Lines before retiring in 1997. After retirement Charles worked part time as a parts courier for Susquehanna Motor Company, West Milton.
He was a member of Faith Chapel, White Deer, he served on the ad council, the PPR committee as well as several other committees.
Charles was a life member of the Teamsters Union and the Wounded Warriors. He was also a member of the NRA, Clyde F. Mowrer American Legion Post #323, and the Muffley-Huff Post #8206, V.F.W.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael L. and Joan Wertz, of Baltimore, MD and David L. and Marlene Wertz, of New Berlin; one daughter, Sharon A. Wertz, of White Deer; two sisters, Arrietta Fisher and Jean Werner, both of Watsontown; four grandchildren, Tess Marie, Corey, Alexander and Steven Wertz; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Jordan Waycaster.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three brothers, Jay, Frank and Bill; and three sisters, Isabelle, Esther and Bernice.
Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, 2125 White Deer Pike White Deer, followed by the funeral at 6, with his pastor, the Rev. Robert O. Rice, Jr. officiating.
A private burial will be held in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
