Clara E. “Pat” Fertig, 87, of Mifflinburg, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
She was born March 8, 1932 in Hartley Twp., Union County, a daughter of the late Charles and Lila (Johnson) Pursley. On Aug. 6, 1952 she married Howard J. Fertig, who preceded her in death Aug. 16, 2010. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Pat attended Mifflinburg High School. She worked at the former JPM, Lewisburg for 43 years before retiring.
She was a member of the Truth and Restoration Church, Milton.
Pat loved caring for her family and working side by side with them on the farm. She was very fond of dogs and cats. That love was evident in her daily life, caring for the cats that other people abandoned.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Howard James and Christina Fertig, of Mifflinburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Carl Marks, of Mifflinburg; a sister-in-law, Nancy J. Wolf, of Port Trevorton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Lorraine and James Pursley; a sister, Lillian Kahley; and three children in infancy.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Winfield Cemetery, Felmey Rd., Winfield, with Pastor Marvin Young, officiating.
The family welcomes flowers, however, if desired contributions in Pat’s memory may be made to a local animal shelter or charity of one’s choice.
The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg.
