Clarence H. Swinehart, 92, of Lewisburg, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
He was born April 28, 1923, in Middleburg, a son of the late Clarence E. and Elsie A. (Herman) Swinehart. On February 23, 1952, he married the former Helen B. Platt. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage before her death on April 8, 2004.
Clarence served honorably in the army during World War II. During his time in the service, he acquired a passion for cooking and would retire from Bucknell in April of 1988 with 35 years of service as a cook.
He was a member of Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg.
Clarence was a member of Kratzer-Dull American Legion Post #182.
He enjoyed cooking & baking and would share with anyone who would take time to visit with him. He was also an avid gardener and loved flowers. Clarence enjoyed quilting and liked to show off his handiwork. He was fond of dogs, especially his own, Spotty.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffry L. and Beverly D. Swinehart, of Lewisburg; two sisters, Shirley Wagner, of Dewart and Carol Keefer, of Lewisburg; and one grandson, Shawn J. Swinehart and his companion, Wendy Balliet.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his first wife, Doris L. Bilger on November 25, 1950; one brother, John G. Swinehart; and two sisters, June L. Heddings and Jean A. Boop.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St. Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2016 with the Rev. Steven Middernacht, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
