Cloyd “Dale” Schrader, Sr., 87, of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
Born July 11, 1926 in Six Mile Run, Bedford County, he was a son of the late Samuel and Mary (Taylor) Schrader. On June 21, 1962 he married the former, Lois L. Stover, who survives. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Dale attended Lewisburg High School. He served as a mechanic in the U.S. Army during both World War II and the Korean War. Following the Army, Dale worked as a mechanic retiring from the former Walter Oldsmobile, Lewisburg. Following retirement, Dale worked for Susquehanna Fire Equipment and as a driver for BZ Motors.
He was a member of the William Cameron Engine Co., Lewisburg, the Lewisburg Memorial Post 7715 V.F.W. and their Honor Guard, American Legion Post #841, Montandon and a former board member of Lewisburg midget football.
Dale was an avid fan of all sports. He also bowled for a local league in Lewisburg.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son and daughter-in-law, Dale, Jr. and Jaydette Schrader, of Milton; one daughter, Penny Straub, of Mifflinburg; one brother, Allen Schrader, of Danville; 4 grandchildren, Brian Straub and companion Missy Connors, David Schrader and companion Britt Yearick, Zachary Cawley and Chelisea Heimbach; and one great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Schrader.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Samuel Schrader II; and one sister, Phyllis Walker.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St., Lewisburg, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert O. Rice, Jr., officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions be made to Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, Inc. 106 S. Second St., Lewisburg, PA 17837 to help defray funeral costs.
The family would also like to thank Elmcroft, Evangelical Hospice and Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village for all the compassionate care extended to Dale.
