Daniel W. Doughton

Daniel W. Doughton, 64, of 517 Carpenters Lane, Pennsdale, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, where he had been admitted earlier that day.

Born June 7, 1950, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Shadrach and Bessie (Swainbank) Doughton.  He and his wife, M. Louise Fulmer, would have observed their 30 ^th wedding anniversary on October 26 ^th .

Daniel was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Mansfield University, and Wilkes University. He taught for 25 years in the Sullivan County School District, retiring in 2000, before becoming a Pennsylvania State Education Association UniServ in the Wilkes Barre office.

In addition to education, Dan was a passionate student of history, especially that of the Civil War.  For many years, he was an active player in the Laporte Little Theater group.  He enjoyed baseball and was a true Phillies fan.

He gave back to the community as a Trustee of the Muncy Public Library, served on the Muncy Township planning commission, and was a Pennsdale volunteer fireman.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five brothers; Lawrence, James, William, Paul, and Mark, four sisters; Roberta, Beth, Lee, and Karen.  Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by his brother Shadrach.

Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, October 19, at the Pennsdale Civic Center, 261 Village Rd., Pennsdale, where a memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. with light refreshments served following the service.

An additional service will be held in his home town of Wilkes-Barre, PA, at 2 p.m. Monday, October 20, at Firwood United Methodist Church, 399 Old River Road, Wilkes Barre, PA.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Muncy Public Library, 108 S. Main St., Muncy, PA 17756, or the Pennsdale Volunteer Fire Company, 261 Village Rd., Pennsdale, PA 17756.
