Darl E. Metzger

Darl E. Metzger, 92, of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Riverwoods, Lewisburg.

Born August 31, 1922 in Pine Creek, she was a daughter of the late Raymond M. and Anna L. (Reed) Grier. On June 6, 1942 she married A. William Metzger, Jr., who preceded her in death on March 4, 2010. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Darl was a 1940 graduate of Williamsport High School.  She later retired from Williamsport High School where she worked in the cafeteria.

She was a member of Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewisburg.

Darl was a former member of the German Lutheran Church, Williamsport, where she taught Sunday school and was a past president of the Women’s Organization.  She was also active in Williamsport Church Women United.  Darl continued her service at Riverwoods, where she was active in the Women’s Auxiliary, Red Hat Society and part of the Grande Illumination committee.  She also volunteered in the gift shop and Nursing Center, as well as the Susquehanna Valley visitor’s bureau.

She enjoyed crafts of all kinds and loved knitting, crocheting, sewing and fishing.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. A. William and Janice Metzger, of New Tripoli; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela E. and Rev. Garry Tyler, of Brazil; one sister-in-law, Hilda Grier, of Falling Waters, WV; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Richard Grier.

The family is planning a memorial service at ­­­­2 p.m. Sunday, March 1 at Marlow Hall, Riverwoods, 3201 River Rd., Lewisburg, PA 17837, with Pastor Peter Geschwindner, Riverwoods chaplain, officiating

The family suggest contributions in Darl’s name be made to the Riverwoods Benevolent Care Fund, 3201 River Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St. Lewisburg.
