David (Dave) E. Suders

February 22, 1936 — March 7, 2024

Lewisburg

David (Dave) E. Suders of Lewisburg, a man of great faith, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ March 7, 2024.   He was surrounded by his family.

He was born February 22, 1936 in English Center, son of the late William and Hazel (Carson) Suders.

Dave attended a one room schoolhouse in English Center and graduated one year early by passing the 8th grade equivalency exam after completing 7 years at the school.  He was a 1953 graduate of Wellsboro High School and although he did not like English Literature (specifically William Shakespeare’s, Macbeth) he always promoted knowledge and education as the keys to success.  He completed a Penn State University course in Traffic and Transportation in 1960.

Dave married his high school sweetheart Geraldine Louise Dibble on June 26, 1955, and celebrated 68 years of marriage.

As an active member of the Baptist Church in Wellsboro and a 25-year member of the New Hope Lutheran Brethren Church in Lewisburg, Dave served as a deacon in both churches.  As part of his outreach, he and his wife Gerry, became warm and loving foster parents to many children while living in Wellsboro.

He was employed by the former Halls Motor Transit Company in the Traffic Department and in 1961, joined Consolidated Freightways as a Sales Account Manager.  Under Dave’s leadership as Terminal Manager for Consolidated Freightways, he built a prominent presence for the trucking organization in North Central Pennsylvania.  He retired after 30 years of dedicated service in January of 1992.

David was also a past member of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity and served as President of the Central Pennsylvania Traffic Club during the years of 1966 and 1967.

Although he was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved camping, Dave’s legacy and love in this world was his family.  He is survived by his wife Geraldine L. (Dibble) Suders, son Daniel Suders and wife Janice of Lewisburg, daughter Sandy (Suders) Hilles and husband Joel of New Port Richey, Florida, son Attorney Michael Suders of Lewisburg and daughter Nancy (Suders) Nevil of Mifflinburg.

His eight grandchildren are Heather Shay and husband Richard, Michelle Schmitt and husband Frank, Jesse Suders and wife Heather, Andrew Kline, Rachael Knarr and husband Pedro, Tony Klose, Joshua Klose and wife Nicole, and Kayla Nevil.

David was the proud great-grandfather of eighteen:  Sarah, Emily, and Piper Shay, Parker, Lydia, Catherine, Rose and Martin Schmitt, Cadence and Grayson Suders, Avery, Evan and Caleb Kline, Taylor and Haley Knarr, Aria Gessner, Skylynn and Greyson Nevil.

In addition, Dave is survived by his much-loved brother Glenn, (Gus) Suders of South Williamsport.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Dave may be made to his church: New Hope Lutheran Brethren Church, 205 South 14th Street, Lewisburg, PA  17837.

One of Dave’s favorite bible verses is Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, “For everything there is a season….” Which the family asks that you read in honor of his life and God’s wisdom.
