Donald “Don” E. Rifenburgh, 89, of Lewisburg, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.

Don was born on October 25, 1926 in Red Hook, NY, a son of the late Halsey Cook and Georgina (Cole) Rifenburgh.  He married Alice Belons and had four children, Nancy, Donald, Terry, and Steven.  Alice passed away in 1992.   On July 12, 1994, he married the former Bertha Mae Shumac, and they celebrated 21 years of marriage before her death on October 5, 2015.

Don was a graduate of Red Hook High School. He served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II and was discharged in 1946.  He was a life member of the New Berlin American Legion AM #957 and the Lewisburg Memorial Post 7715 V.F.W.

Don worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York  for  40 years. He enjoyed traveling and working on his computer.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Surviving are his children Terry Rifenburgh and his wife, Mary-Lynne, of Forest Hills, NY, and Steven Rifenburgh, of Leominster, MA, as well as Paul C. Miller, of Addison, Kandi Renn and her husband, Harry, of Mifflinburg, Thomas Miller and his wife, Mary, of Sunbury, Barbara Snook and her husband, Steve, of Milton; 11 grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Nancilee Rifenburgh; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Alice (Belons) Rifenburgh; two sons, James Miller and Donald B. Rifenburgh; two daughters, Karen Miller and Nancy Rifenburgh; three brothers; four sisters; one granddaughter, Natasha Renn; and one daughter-in-law, Mildred Rifenburgh.

A graveside service will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Middleburg at noon on Saturday, July 9, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Buffalo Valley Commons, Reitz Blvd., Lewisburg, with Pastor Marian K. Anderson, chaplain at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, officiating.

The family suggests contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg.
