Douglas Carl "Doug" Widenor

Douglas “Doug” Carl Widenor, 83, of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Mountain View, a Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coal Township.

He was born June 15, 1933 in Easton, a son of the late Carl and June (Lozier) Widenor.  On January 10, 1976 he married the former Catherine Bodnar, who survives.  Together they celebrated 40 years of marriage.

Doug grew up in Belvidere, New Jersey.  He graduated from Rider College in Lawrenceville, New Jersey before serving in the US Navy on board the heavy cruiser USS Columbus during the Korean War Era.

After his military service Doug had a long career in the retail industry with G.C. Murphy Co. and Murphy's Mart, which later became Ames Department Stores.  In retirement he enjoyed working part-time at the Kenneth Langone Athletic & Recreation Center at Bucknell University.

Doug was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Lewisburg, a longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus, and a past member of the Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club. He was an avid Penn State and Penguins fan and frequently attended Bucknell sporting events. Doug was a military history buff, enjoyed woodworking, solving puzzles and gardening, taking great pride in his roses.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Jennifer and husband Brian Hendricks, son Jeffrey and wife Sally Widenor, daughter Patti and husband David Ault, daughter Kathryn and husband Chip Craig, and daughter Susan Bellucci; sister, Beverly Ciceran; brother, Barry Widenor; nine grandchildren, Nicholas DeLongis, Justin Hendricks, James Ault, Anthony Widenor, Megan Widenor, Eric Ault, Amanda Ault, Christopher Widenor and Jacob Craig Koury; and three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie DeLongis, Travis Ault and Tayden Hendricks.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Rose Widenor.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, 814 St. Louis St., Lewisburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Msgr. William Richardson, officiating.  Friends will be received from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Doug’s name be made to the Caring Community at Sacred Heart Parish, 814 St. Louis St., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
