Edward Beaver Frontz

Edward Beaver Frontz, of Allenwood, passed away on Aug. 21, 2014, at the age of 78. Born on May 10, 1936, in Zanesville, Ohio, he was one of three sons to LeRoy Sr. and Olive W. (Billhime) Frontz.

Ed was a 1954 graduate of Watsontown High School. In 1958, he graduated from Bucknell University in Lewisburg with a baccalaureate degree in biology, where he also completed the ROTC program.

Following his graduation from Bucknell, he completed training at Fort Benning, Ga., and Fort Dix, N.J., and was commissioned as an ordinance officer in the U.S. Army. He served overseas in Germany, where he was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant. Upon returning home, Ed served several years in the U.S. Army Reserves based in Lock Haven.

Ed furthered his education completing a graduate degree in education in 1962, also at Bucknell. He began many years of exceptional service as an educator, teaching biology and physics in Moravia, N.Y. He was very much admired and greatly respected for his distinguished career as a skilled administrator in the Williamsport Area school district, serving as an 11th grade principal at the high school and later as an assistant principal at Roosevelt Junior High until his retirement in 1992.

Ed was especially noted for his unique ability to communicate, relate and have a special positive influence on the lives of the students, parents and all with whom he made contact with.

On Aug. 24, 1963, Ed and Margot (Copland) Frontz were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg. Ed and Margot raised two sons, David and Timothy, on the family farm near Allenwood. Ed loved the farm very much and spent as much time as he could there both during his working career and in retirement. He especially enjoyed the farm pond which he helped his dad (LeRoy Sr.) build in 1962 and operating his Allis-Chalmers farm equipment. He and Margot also enjoyed special times with their many friends at their cottage in Canada. In August of 2013, Ed and Margot celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, a very special occasion with their family.

Ed was also known for his unwavering commitment to protecting the environment and quality of life for the Allenwood community serving 12 years as Gregg township supervisor, including as several as chairman.

In April 2014, he was honored by Union county for his distinguished service and the crucial efforts he made in preserving agricultural land in the county. This award meant a lot to Ed, as he cared so very much about preserving exceptional quality agricultural lands, rich historical values and the valuable rural attributes and lifestyle of the county.

Ed is survived by his wife, Margot, of Allenwood; two sons, David S., of Allenwood and Timothy M., who resides near St. Marys; four grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Jacob David and Laura Elizabeth, to their son David and Brenda (Robinson) Frontz and Katherine Elizabeth and Christina Rebecca, to their son Timothy and Elizabeth (Lacontora) Frontz; two brothers, LeRoy Jr., of Muncy and Richard F., of Boerne, Texas.

Ed touched the lives of so many people in a very special way. We know he will be missed by great neighbors, special friends and former colleagues. Many people felt privileged to know him even if only for a very short time. Ed often mentioned how much these many folks meant to him and how they touched his life. He will be forever remember as a devoted husband and loving father, who is missed beyond what words can express.

In accordance with Edás wishes, services will be held privately with his immediate family.
