Edward C. Wertman, 100, a longtime resident of Muncy, passed to his heavenly reward on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Celebration Villa of Loyalsock.

Born October 16, 1923 in Muncy, he was a son of the late John and Florence (Smith) Wertman. On January 30, 1943 he married the former Lola M. Walker, who preceded him in death on September 17, 2016.  Together they celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Edward was a longtime, active member of Grace Baptist Church, Muncy, where he served as a Deacon and lent his time and talents to many projects over the years.  Edward was also a member of Gideon’s International.

Earlier in life he was an avid golfer and car enthusiast for many years.  He also enjoyed maintaining his home and kept a lovely yard.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Edward L. and Virginia S. Wertman, of Jenks, OK; a daughter-in-law, Judy L. Wertman, of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada; six grandchildren, Douglas, Deborah, Jeffrey, Stephanie, Nicholas and Timothy; and six great-grandchildren, Tristan, Samantha, McKinley, Oakley, Joshua and Brenna.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Stephen C. Wertman; two sisters, Eleanor Rohm and Mae “Dolly” Johnson; two brothers, Max and James Wertman; and one great-grandchild, Jordan.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 11 at Grace Baptist Church, 5471 Clarkstown Road, Muncy, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles Teffeteller, officiating.

Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

Edward was a wonderful man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.  He will be greatly missed, but his family and friends are comforted to know he will spend eternity with Jesus.

The family would like to thank Celebration Villa of Loyalsock, and their staff, for their loving care of Ed and Lola for the last years of their lives.  They also thank hospice of UPMC and all the dear friends who visited him over many years.

The family gratefully acknowledges Becky Berninger for her selfless devotion to Ed and Lola for 20 plus years.  No one could ask for a better friend.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions be made to the Daniel C. Berninger Scholarship Fund at First Community Foundation, 201 W.
