Eleanor Butler (Pangburn) Shelly, 93, passed away May 1, 2019, at Nottingham Village.
Born on December 26, 1925, Eleanor was a daughter of the late John W. and Francis E. (Butler) Pangburn, of Lewisburg. She married the late Robert Shelly, who preceded her in death in January of 2014.
Upon graduation from high school, Eleanor worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in the corporate headquarters in Philadelphia. After marrying Robert on January 19, 1952, she resided with her husband in Collingswood, New Jersey. She enjoyed her summers at their beach house in Avalon, New Jersey. Upon Robert’s retirement as Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors of S.T. Hudson Engineers of Philadelphia, they purchased a farm in Turbotville, in order to be closer to family.
During her life, she entertained family and friends in her home, always having cookies on hand to share over conversation. She enjoyed animals, gardening and reading. She had strong political opinions and wasn’t afraid to mention them to others in disagreement. She enjoyed traveling and loved to talk about the travels she took and those she dreamed of taking and enjoyed hearing about others’ travels. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
Eleanor was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lewisburg.
Eleanor is survived by nephews, Richard Chalmers, John Chalmers, Craig Chalmers and Tom Bell; niece, Eleanor (Walters) Daugherty; great-nieces, Wendy Chalmers, Elizabeth Daugherty and Elaine Chalmers; and great-nephews, Samuel Daugherty and Daniel Chalmers. She is also survived by a special cat, Timmy.
In addition to her husband of 62 years, she was predeceased by sisters, Mary E. (Pangburn) Chalmers and Sara (Pangburn) Bell; and nephew, William J. Chalmers.
