Elizabeth J. Bennett, 88, of Montgomery, died Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.
Born September 15, 1935 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Alice (Bird) Hakes. On September 19, 1953 she married Franklin R. “Ted” Bennett, Sr., who preceded her in death October 1, 2018. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Elizabeth was a 1953 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School. She previously worked at the former Montgomery Mills. Elizabeth baked wedding and special occasion cakes and ran a ceramics business from her home, often traveling to craft shows and street fairs. She also enjoyed babysitting for many years.
Elizabeth attended the First Baptist Church of Elimsport.
She enjoyed sewing quilts for charity and putting puzzles together.
Surviving are four children, Deborah (Don) Smith, Darlene “Dolly” (Tom) Staggert, Christine (Harvey) Stugart, and Mic (Pamela) Bennett, all of Montgomery; one brother, Harry Hakes, of Montgomery; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son and daughter-in-law, Franklin Jr. and Linda Bennett; foster son, Jim Myers; and numerous siblings.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon, Thursday, April 4, at the First Baptist Church of Elimsport, 6818 State Rt. 44, Allenwood, where the funeral will be held at noon, with her pastor the Rev. Todd Baker, officiating.
Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Elizabeth’s name be made to the First Baptist Church of Elimsport.
The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
