Elsie Ellen Smith

Elsie Ellen Smith, 88, of Muncy, died Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born March 21, 1936 in Muncy, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Della G. (Sellers) Johnson.  She and her husband, Preston A. “Pete” Smith, celebrated 54 years of marriage before his death on January 19, 2016.

Elsie was a 1954 graduate of Muncy High School.  She worked early in life at the former Mom’s Lunch, Ashler Manor, Sylvania, Montoursville and owned Smith’s Electro Baked Doughnuts.  Later she owned Elsie’s Remnants in Muncy, then Elsie and Gloria’s Remnants in Montoursville before her and her husband formed Pete and Elsie’s Craft and Novelty in Montoursville.  Elsie later retired from Ben Franklin’s, Clarkstown.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Muncy, for over 50 years.

Elsie enjoyed crafting, sewing and gardening.  Most importantly, she loved spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are one son, Mark P. Smith and his wife Joan, of Colorado Springs, CO and one daughter, Melissa A. Smith, of Muncy.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a twin sister at birth.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday, July 10 at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St. Muncy, where the funeral service will be held at Noon with her pastor the Rev. Richard Robinson, officiating.

Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
