Eric M. Long, 52, of Muncy, died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Manor Care North, Williamsport.

Born October 26, 1964 in Muncy, he was a son of the late Charles V. Jr. and Shirley Joanne (Taylor) Long.

Eric was a 1982 graduate of Muncy High School and later received his bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg University in journalism. He worked as a journalist for the Potter Leader Enterprise, Coudersport, the Danville News, and most recently the Williamsport Sun-Gazette.

He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Williamsport where he was very involved. Eric enjoyed music and was a vocalist in the Music Ministry program.  He acted as church historian for many years and used his professional writing skills to write articles for and about the church.  Eric was a member of the church planting team which helped locate new areas to start churches.  He was extremely faithful participating in prayer and Bible discussion groups.

Eric enjoyed Little League and umpired for over 25 years. He also volunteered his time helping during the Little League World Series.  Eric was fond of his beagles and enjoyed their companionship.

Surviving are two brothers, Charles J. Long, of Muncy and Gerald “Gerry” D. Long, of Belle Vernon; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Sam Derr, and Kristi and Harold Beach, all of Picture Rocks.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with his pastor, Kenton Hunt, officiating.

Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Eric’s memory be made to the First Southern Baptist Church, 89 Kimble Hill Rd.,  Williamsport, PA 17701.
