Esther D. Mowery

Esther D. Mowery, 90, of 1421 State Rt. 54, Montgomery, died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.

Born November 5, 1926 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Oliver Kenneth and Mary (Harris) Wertz. She and her husband, Richard J. Mowery, were married 38 years before his death Feb. 19, 1983.

Esther attended Montgomery High School. She previously worked at the former Weldon’s, Williamsport and the former GTE Sylvania, Montoursville, all while working with her husband to manage their jug milk dairy farm, Farview Dairy Farm, where she put in long hours, milking cows and running the family dairy store, all while she raised her children and many more.

Esther was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Williamsport.

She enjoyed traveling, here and abroad. Esther also loved reading, doing puzzles and playing cards and was a member of a card club.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Karen Mowery, of Montgomery; five daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon McCarty, of Montgomery, Sandra Ravert, of Muncy, Beverly Shedden, of Montoursville, Erica Lovelace, of Midlothian, VA  and Nancy and Gene Brannigan, of Muncy; 13 grandchildren, Cindy Carey, Karen (Kevin)  Fenstermacher, Donna Kirkner, Kristine (Eric) Gordon, Kelli Snyder, Michael (Jennifer) Ravert, Eric (Kristi) Ravert, Alan (Chrissy) Lovelace, Courtney Lovelace, Jennifer (Wes) Peck, Renee (Lance) Kennedy, Kaitlin Kneedler and Kara (Justin) Herr; and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four sisters, Emmaline McCabe, Beulah Brooks, Ethel Hartt and Betty Dobson; a brother, Paul Wertz; and two sons-in-law, Robert Ravert and Robert McCarty.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the church pastor, the Rev. Arlene Beechert, officiating, assisted by the Rev. David C. Smith, of the Montoursville Presbyterian Church.

Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

The family will provide flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gatehouse. Make checks payable to Susquehanna Health Foundation and mail checks to 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
