Eston H. Fritz, 97, formerly of Winfield, died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
He was born June 9, 1916 in Rochester, PA, a son of the late Warren B. and Myrtle (Dennis) Fritz. On October 7, 1938 he married the former, Arlene Kreamer at the UCC parsonage, New Berlin.
Eston attended schools in Bloomsburg and Lewisburg. He went to the former Williamsport Technical Institute, now Pennsylvania College of Technology for tool making. In 1934 he started at Pennsylvania House Furniture in Lewisburg making knives for all the machines with automatic lathe heads. In 1960 he was promoted to oversee and train the workers in the lathe operation. Eston retired in 1989 after 55 years of service.
Eston was a member of St. John’s Dry Valley Church for many years and served on the church council, cemetery committee and as a Sunday school treasurer.
He was also a member of the Center for UFO studies research and investigation committee since 1947 and later the international organization until his death. Eston belonged to the P.O.S. of A Camp #352, Winfield, was a member of the NRA and a lifetime member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsman’s Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 75 years are two sons and daughters-in-law, Eston L. and Marlene Fritz and Warren E. and Maria Fritz, all of Winfield; a brother, Harry Fritz, of Lewisburg; four grandchildren, Scott A. Fritz, of Lewisburg, Suzanne Wray, of McClure, Stephen Fritz, of New Mexico and Eric Fritz, of North Carolina; six great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Bruce Fritz and three brothers, Roland, Gordon and Russel.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Union Church Dry Valley, 3667 Rt. 304, Winfield, with his pastor the Rev. Ricky Phillips, officiating.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Guyers Cemetery, Dry Valley.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to St. John’s Union Church Dry Valley, 3667 Rt. 304, Winfield, PA 17889.
The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.
