Eugene "Abe" Golla

March 26, 1924 — October 7, 2017

Eugene “Abe” Golla, 93, of Berwick, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at his home.

He was born March 26, 1924 in Nuremburg, a son of the late Amos and Pearl (Slusser) Golla. On March 7, 1953 he married the former Frances Mae Lamoreaux, who survives. Together they celebrated 64 years of marriage.

A Corporal in the United States Army during World War II, he served in Europe from the D-Day invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, through the end of the war.  During his time in the Army, he earned five major campaign medals.

He later worked for ACF, Berwick Forge, Girton Manufacturing and Greenthumb, all of Berwick

Abe was a member of the Mifflin Fire Company, Mifflinville.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors; including at his cabin in Elks Grove, blue gill fishing in Mt. Lake, hunting, gardening, or digging up old bottles in nature.  Abe also made many crafts in his woodshop.  Most importantly, he loved visiting with family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Bonnie Aponic and her husband, Robert, of Ringtown, Eugene Golla and his wife, Pat, of Berwick, and Wayne Golla and his wife, Susan, of Mifflinville; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Elmer and Raymond “Shorty” Golla, and one sister, Arlene Coffman.

Burial will be held privately in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery, Zenith.
