Evelyn M. Mabus

Evelyn M. Mabus, 102, formerly of Lewisburg, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024 at Watsontown Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born October 6, 1921 in Mifflinburg, the daughter of the late Wesley and Caroline (Shannon) Brouse.  On April 20, 1946 she married Richard G. “Dick” Mabus, Sr., who preceded her in death May 26, 2015.  Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage.

Evelyn was a 1939 graduate of Mifflinburg High School. Earlier in life, she spent her time at home raising her children. Evelyn would later work for Bucknell University retiring in 1983.

She was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, where she volunteered many hours, helping in any way she could. Evelyn was very passionate about donating blood and even received several awards for her commitment to be a donor.

Evelyn was known for her baking and cooking and taught other family members. She was an avid reader and loved to travel in her spare time.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Sam Williamson, of Turbotville; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard “Rick”, Jr. and Pam Mabus, of Winfield; two grandchildren, Rose Tagnani, of Wilkes-Barre and R. Graham Mabus III, of Strasburg; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Airiana, Caleb and Sarah and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Harold, Marlin and Ken.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in Lewisburg Cemetery, with the Rev. John E. Lee, retired United Methodist Minister, officiating.
