G. Robert Hofer

G. Robert Hofer, 87, of Pennsdale, died Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Susquehanna Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center at the Muncy Valley Hospital.

Born January 31, 1927 in Muncy, he was a son of the late Clyde I. and Helen (Gordner) Hofer. On October 20, 1956 he married the former Shirley A. Gortner.  Together they celebrated 55 years of marriage before her death on July 14, 2012.

Bob studied drafting at the former Williamsport Technical Institute and served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

He retired in 1989 from the former Sprout Waldron, now Andritz, where he worked as a quality control person; first in the machine shop then on the assembly floor, for over 42 years.

Bob was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Pennsdale, where he served on the Administration Board, Board of Trustees as well as Financial Secretary.

He was also a member, and past master of the Muncy Lodge #299, F & AM, for 66 years, the Williamsport Consistory, where he was a 33rd degree mason, and was an active member with the Zembo Shrine Temple Harrisburg and the Sunbury Shrine Club.  Bob was a member of Zafar Grotto, South Williamsport, where he served as a past Financial Secretary, the Warrior Run chapter #246, the Roland Ritter American Legion Post 268, Muncy and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3428, Muncy.

Bob was elected Supervisor of Muncy Township for 12 years and served as Township Secretary for two years.  He was a member of the Muncy Township Volunteer Fire Company serving as chief for twenty years and ten years as Emergency Management Coordinator. He was also a member of the West Branch Fireman’s Association and the Pennsylvania State Fire Chiefs Association.

Bob enjoyed attending the activities of his children and grandchildren.  He was a fan of collegiate and professional football.  He liked traveling with friends and liked various forms of auto racing.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, David Hofer, of Muncy and Kirk and Zoe Hofer, of Keller,TX; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Forrest Medley, of W. Friendship, MD; a sister, N. Jean Weller, of State College; and six grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 658 Village Rd., Pennsdale. Officiating will be his minister, Pastor Rob Ransom, and his nephew, Rev. Robert Stroup II, Bybee United Methodist Church, Waco, KY.

Burial with full military honors will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
