Gary L. "Butch" Shook

Gary L. “Butch”  Shook, 81, of Montgomery, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.

Born May 28, 1943 in Parkers Landing, he was a son of the late Albert and Virginia (Fair) Shook. On November 8, 1996 he married the former Lana D. Wertz, who preceded him in death July 11, 2020. Together they celebrated 23 years of marriage.

Gary was a 1961 graduate of ACB Joint Schools and a 1970 graduate of the former Williamsport Area Community College, now Penn College. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Gary worked as a corrections officer at SCI Muncy, retiring in 1996. He then worked in custodial- maintenance at the Montgomery Area Schools, retiring in 2013.

Gary was a member of the New Covenant Assembly of God, Montgomery, where he served as an usher and greeter until recently.

He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Bower-Decker #251 American Legion, Montgomery.

Gary enjoyed attending Bible studies and taking care of his property.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and George Zimmerman, of Milton; four brothers, David Shook, of Hilliards, Ronald Shook, of Parker, Joseph Shook, of Gastonia, NC and Daniel Shook, of Cranberry; three sisters, Sally Roudebush, of Chicora, Debbie Osier, of Shippenville and Tammie Shook, of Parker; four granddaughters, Sheena, Chelsy, Carly and Cortney; and one great-grandson.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Leanne Pick and a brother, Glenn Shook.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the New Covenant Assembly of God, 1270 Pinchtown Rd., Montgomery and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with his pastor the Rev. James Pentz, officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Gary’s name be made to LAPS, 630 Wildwood Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
