George Richard “Dick” Dietz, 86, of 409 Broadway St., Muncy, entered into eternal peace Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.
Born May 25, 1931 in Bloomsburg, he was the son of the late Richard Raymond and Esther (Loreman) Dietz. On January 2, 1990 he married the former Marlene Herrick, who survives. Together they celebrated 28 years of marriage.
Dick was a 1949 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and a graduate of Bloomsburg University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He also attended Bucknell University for additional study. Dick was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving honorably during the Korean War. He taught Science and Biology at the Muncy School District for 35 years.
He was a member of the Muncy Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and sang in the choir. Dick was a member of the West Branch Chorale and a former member of the Muncy Lodge #299, F & AM and the Williamsport Consistory.
Dick enjoyed reading, volunteering with meals on wheels and at the Muncy Valley Hospital, hunting, fishing and sports, especially coaching.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, David A. and Diane Dietz, of Gold Canyon, AZ; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Dietz and Donald Kravig, of Grand Terrace, CA; four step children, Christine and David Meckbach, Cheryl and Joseph Girio, Jennifer and Donald Reese and J. Ronald Beck; grandchildren, Beau Beck, Kiel (Megan) Reese, Derek (Alicia) Reese, Andrew (Katie) Girio, Michael (Rachel) Dietz, Lindsey (Jack) Lucas, Benjamin (Kate) Meckbach, Daniel (Elise) Meckbach, Rachel (Christopher) Knipe, Carolyn Meckbach, Lauren (John) Pearce, Erin (Leo) Girio-Herrera, Nik (Angie) Kravig, Kris (Rena) Kravig and Kendra Kravig; and great-grandchildren, Hudson and Finley Meckbach, Evelyn, Roman and Colton Meckbach, Gabriel and Benjamin Knipe, Hannah and Rebecca Reese, Garrett and Samuel Pearce, Elias and Luca Girio-Herrera and Olivia Kravig; and Essie.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Allene B. Dietz.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Muncy Baptist Church, 11 W. Penn St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m. with his pastor, the Rev. Robert W. Rice, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the Muncy Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Muncy Baptist Church, 11 W. Penn St., Muncy, PA 17756 or to the Muncy Public Library, 108 S. Main St., Muncy, PA 17756.
The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
