George I. Hawk, Sr., 73, of 147 E. Water St., Muncy, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Susquehanna Health Skilled Nursing Unit at the Muncy Valley Hospital.
Born August 18, 1943 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late George Norman and Pearl Jenny (Hamilton) Hawk. On August 21, 1965 he married the former Wanda Feigles, who survives. Together they celebrated 51 years of marriage.
George was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served four years aboard the USS Saratoga off the Cuban coast during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He retired from the former Avco, now Textron, Williamsport, where he worked for forty years.
George was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 787, Williamsport. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting antiques, reading and watching Nascar.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, George I. Jr. and Carolyn Hawk, of Cogan Station; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Bradley Bowers, of Enola; a brother, George Norman “Bud” Hawk, of Williamsport; three sisters, Thelma George, of Muncy, Betty Kilborn, of Hughesville and Phyllis Haupt, of Muncy; and four grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth, Spencer Charles, Madison Kay and Sydney Louise.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Hawk and a brother in infancy.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Officiating will be Rev. Arlene Beechert, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Muncy.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the Muncy Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in George’s name be made to either the SPCA, 2805 Reach Rd., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
