Gladys M. Eichelberger

March 30, 1923 — January 31, 2020

Gladys M. Eichelberger, 96, of Lewisburg, died on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

She was born March 30, 1923 in Cherry Tree, PA, a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Toner) Marks. On January 9, 1947 she married Rev. Vernon R. Eichelberger, who preceded her in death on August 9, 2012. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Gladys was a 1940 graduate of Cherry Tree High School, graduating one year early as class valedictorian.  She earned her associates degree from Westminster College.  Early in life, Gladys worked as a secretary for Sylvania, and later for numerous churches.

Gladys was currently a member of Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg.

She was a charter member and past Worthy Matron of Felicitus Chapter 500, Order of the Eastern Star.  Gladys loved helping others and was a longtime volunteer of the Riverwoods Auxiliary, and a Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Resident (PEER), which are individuals trained to advocate and improve the quality of life in their respective long-term care homes.

Gladys was an avid and passionate reader right up through the last weeks of her life.  She was a loyal supporter of the Public Library for Union County and their program to deliver her books to read (one of their best customers). Her greatest passion in life was helping others and serving Christ and did so with all her heart! Her second greatest passions were her family, friends, and dogs, especially her grand puppy, Millie and great-grand puppies, Onyx, Xerox, and Bugsy.

Surviving are two children, Rev. DiAnn Baxley and her husband, Michael Alliston, of Lewisburg, and David Eichelberger Sr. and his wife, Lestra, of English Center; three grandchildren, Shannon Mitchell, Kristin Quintal and David Eichelberger Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Dakota, Anthony and Kora.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a very close cousin, Robert Rinn.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 9 at Marlow Hall, inside of Riverwoods, 15 Ridgecrest Circle, Lewisburg with her pastor, the Rev. Nathan Druckenmiller and Rev. David Dearing, officiating.

Burial will be held privately in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
