Gloria M Badger

September 15, 1924 — August 12, 2016

Gloria M. Badger, 91, formerly of Lewisburg, passed away Friday, August 12, 2016 at Freedom Pointe Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, The Villages, Fl.

She was born September 15, 1924 in Denver, Colorado, a daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Foos) Schultz. Gloria married Robert L. Badger, Sr. and celebrated over 50 years of marriage before his death in 1997.

Gloria worked for years at Bucknell University in the personnel office for student placement and public relations. She later retired from the former International Paper, Lewisburg, after working many years as an executive secretary.

She had a strong faith and was a member of Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg.

The most important thing in Gloria’s life was her family. She loved spending time with them, whether it was an individual visit or a larger get-together.  She took exceptional interest in bowling, golfing, square dancing and travelling. One of her fondest interests was for the Rocky Mountains where she grew up and later returned for three years before her health declined.

She also had a mainstay throughout her life, and that was music. It was of special significance to her and was evident in the many ways she conducted herself personally including humming while doing housework, teaching songs to her children while she washed dishes or cooked, dancing with her husband to songs on the radio or TV (all the while demonstrating dance steps as they once did at Arthur Murray Studio years ago in Colorado), playing church songs on the piano even though she never had lessons, encouraging her children to join both school and church choirs, finding a way for her children to take instrumental lessons through the school, and lastly singing to and dancing with grandchildren encouraging them to enjoy and understand how music can have a positive effect on their lives.

Surviving are her daughters, Bonnie L. Koch and her husband Ronald, of Watsontown,  Linda L. Badger-Hagemeyer and her husband Mike, of Williamsport, and Joni L. Badger, of Florida; three brothers, Carl Shultz and his wife Valerie, of Colorado, and Donald Shultz and his wife Victoria and Robert Schultz and his wife Janet, all of California; one sister, Leona Singer, of California; one brother-in-law, Bright ‘Sonny’ Badger; nine grandchildren, Rachael Koch, Benjamin Koch,  Penelope Koch, Austin L. Badger , Jade A. Badger and partner Megan Ruth, Jaime Badger, Ashley Bloom, Aaron Badger and wife Jenny and Paul Hassinger; and five great-grandchildren, Aurora Bloom and Kaleb, Kaeden, Zowie and Eli Rinehart.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one son, Robert L. Badger, Jr.; a sister, Odelia “Tillie” Weber and a sister in infancy, Leona Schultz.

Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St., Lewisburg and again Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m., with her pastor, the Rev. William S. Henderson, officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
