Harold A. "Bud" Walter

Harold A. “Bud” Walter, 85, of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by family.

Born February 28, 1939 in Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Harold B. and Anna E. (Slear) Walter.  On October 16, 1982 he married the former Joyce J. Johnson, who survives.  Together they celebrated 41 years of marriage.

Harold was a graduate of Lewisburg High School in 1957 and Millersville College in 1961.  Early in life he worked as an Industrial Arts teacher in the York School District, and later retired after 30 years as a Postal Carrier for the USPS.  Harold’s main passion was farming.  He farmed his land every night after his mail route and continued this lifestyle his entire life.

Harold was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, where he sang in the choir, served on the council and provided many other services.

He was a talented musician playing the trombone though high school and college.  Harold also played in the Milton Area Community Band and the Selinsgrove Adult Band.  He was also a charter member of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale.

Harold was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed building furniture for his family and church.

Harold was patient, kind, gentle, joyful, content, and an exemplary teacher. An angel from God to his wife.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, William J. Walter and his wife, Mei-lin, of Philadelphia, Phyllis E. Marquette of Lewisburg, Kenneth E. Austin, of Williamsport, Kim K. Satteson and her husband, Mark, of Lewisburg, Lisa M. Brouse and her husband, Ray, of Milton, and Christopher A. Crouse and his wife, Wendy, of Altoona; one sister, Shirley Peters and her husband, Ronald, of Manheim; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one grandson, Michael Austin.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg at 2:00 on June 29th.
