Henry Roger Ellis

Henry Roger Ellis, 98, formerly of New Bedford and most recently of Watsontown, PA, passed away Monday, November 23 at the Watsontown Health and Rehabilitation Center.  He lived most of his life on Nantucket Island and in New Bedford, MA, moving to PA in 1999.

He was born May 1, 1917, in Marstons Mills, MA, a son of the late Amos and Cora (Jones) Ellis. On February 6, 1948 he married the former Alice Law, who preceded him in death on February 20, 2001.  Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Roger was of the Protestant Faith.

He served in the Army during WWII in the European Theater.  He worked as a commercial fisherman in New Bedford, and enjoyed his time spent on the water.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John Gearhart, of New Columbia, PA;  three granddaughters, Gretchen Root and husband, Clarence, of Shepherdstown, WV, Glenda Frederick and husband, Andy, of New Columbia,  and Leia Fink and husband, Tony, of Hollidaysburg; and four great-grandchildren, Avery and Addison Root, Kathryn Mae Frederick and Dylan Fink.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Winthrop and Lawrence  Ellis; and three sisters, Lelia Parks, Annie Harrington and Cora Furtado.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Acushnet Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions in Roger's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
