J. Kenneth Mincemoyer

March 15, 1927 — September 24, 2015

J. Kenneth Mincemoyer, 88, a longtime resident of Hughesville, died Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Manor Care North in Williamsport.

Born March 15, 1927 in Muncy, he was a son of the late Merritt and Sarah (Gordner) Mincemoyer.  His wife of 47 years, the former Roberta A. Michael, preceded him in death on October 9, 1996.

Ken was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.  He attended East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College.  Following graduation he began his 30-year career as a Social Studies teacher at Hughesville High School, where he also served as the Athletic Director and coached varsity basketball and baseball.

During the summers throughout his teaching career, Ken contracted area painting jobs and continued painting through his retirement years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hughesville.  Ken was also a member of the Roland Ritter Post 268 American Legion, Muncy, and the Edward J. Smith Post 3428, V.F.W., Muncy.  In addition, he was inducted into the West Branch Sports Hall of Fame.

Surviving are two sons, Michael W. (Laura) Mincemoyer of Danville and John D. (Mary) Mincemoyer of Picture Rocks; one daughter, Michelle A. (Bill) Rohrbach of Hughesville; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by one brother, Harold Mincemoyer, and one sister, Geraldine Biggs.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p .m. on Monday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.  Officiating will be his pastor, Rev. Cinda Brucker.  Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Hughesville High School Athletic Department, 349 Cemetery Street, Hughesville, PA 17737, or Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 S. Main St., Hughesville, PA 17737.
