James A. "Jim" Murphy

James A. “Jim” Murphy, 64, of Allenwood, formerly of Hughesville, died on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.

He was born August 15, 1955 in Muncy, a son of the late Carl and Laura (Derr) Murphy.  On August 17, 1985 he married the former Sonia Engle and together they celebrated 34 years of marriage.

Jim was a graduate of Muncy High School.  He most recently worked at Hanson Aggregates, Montoursville where he operated large Euclid (known as Yuke’s) dump trucks.  Jim formerly worked at ACF Industries, Milton.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cogan Station, where he served as a Scout Master and a councilor of the Elders Quorum.

Jim was a former member of the Sulphur Springs Rifle and Revolver Club, Clarkstown, and the Muncy Jaycees, serving as a past president.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and martial arts.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, Corey Murphy and his wife Michelle, of Delaware, and Kelsey Hodson and her  husband, Steve, of Colorado; one sister, Betty Lou Hill Haffley and her husband, Robert, of Hughesville; five grandchildren, Lucy June and Graham Hodson, Alexandra Green and her husband, Trey, and Alaina and Jonah Murphy; two great-grandchildren, Arlin and Annabeth Green; and his mother-in-law, June Engle.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Janet Hess; one brother-in-law, Bruce Hill Sr.; his father-in-law, George Clinton Engle; and one niece, Cybil Hill Pauling.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 82 Rader Ave. Cogan Station, where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest contribution’s in Jim’s memory be made to either the Parkinson’s Foundation online at www.parkinson.org or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, online at www.lls.org.
