Janet Marie (Benscoter) Solomon, 68, born and raised in Watsontown, a sixteen-year resident of Virginia Beach, and most recently of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.
She was born November 1, 1949 in Watsontown, a daughter of the late Stanley and Marie Benscoter.
Janet was a 1967 graduate of Warrior Run High School. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the Pennsylvania State University and Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Temple University. Janet later earned an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Many years of her life were spent caring for others in her nursing profession at Lancaster General Hospital, as a Captain in the Air Force, and at various hospitals as a nursing instructor. In addition, she helped mainstream electronic medical records.
Janet was of the Christian faith.
She treasured time at the beach, bird watching, making jewelry, and loved animals. Janet was an avid gardener and enjoyed all varieties of flowers.
Surviving are two sons, Brandon Solomon, of Lancaster, and Ryan Solomon, of Crum Lynne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kristen and Dan Carl, of Lancaster, and Abbey and Kevin Turnau, of Colorado; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Debra Benscoter, of Cranberry Township, and Glenn and Carolyn Benscoter, of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Maya and Emma Carl, and Kylie and Logan Turnau; and her former husband, Jerry Solomon, of Lancaster.
Friends will be received from Noon to 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown, where the funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
