Janet Elaine Schwemm, 75, of Winfield, died on Monday, April 13, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born October 15, 1944 in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late John Ellis and Pauline L.M. (O’Bryan Goundie) Lucas. On August 25, 1973 she married William E. Schwemm, who survives. Together they celebrated 46 years of marriage.
Janet was a graduate of Lewisburg Area High School and Maryland Medical Secretarial School, Hagerstown, Maryland.
She worked in Lewisburg as a medical secretary and transcriptionist for Evangelical Community Hospital, Medical Park OB/GYN and Brook Park Family Practice, before retiring in 2012.
Earlier in life, Janet was a member of Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg and carried a deep faith throughout her life. She loved to read and, in her younger years, enjoyed bowling, crafts and planning and decorating for events and gatherings.
Her greatest source of joy was her beloved family. She was a wonderful wife and mother and she deeply treasured being Mimi and Gram Jan to her much-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Janet is survived by one daughter, Melissa Schnars, of Lewisburg; two step sons, Gregg Schwemm and his wife, Peg, of New Berlin and Curtt Schwemm and his companion, Cindy Ott, of Lexington, SC; five grandchildren, Mandy and Samantha Schwemm, Cherish Houseknecht and her husband, Jake, Nicholas DeSantis and his wife, Brittany and Caleb Schnars; three great-grandchildren, Abel and Ezra Houseknecht and Gabriel DeSantis; and one brother, Dennis Lucas, his wife, Virginia and their son, Dennis Lucas, Jr., all of Lewisburg.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
A private graveside service will be held in Lewisburg Cemetery.
