Jay A. Schively, 76, of Muncy, died Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at UPMC, Williamsport.
Born April 15, 1948, in Muncy, he was a son of the late Francis L. and Angelene (Ritter) Schively. On July 15, 1969, he married the former Peggy Campbell, who survives. Together they celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Jay was a 1966 graduate of Muncy High School. He was a 1970 graduate of Penn State University receiving a Bachelor of Science degree and was a graduate of the University of Maryland at Baltimore, where he received a Masters in Social Work. Jay began his career at the Baltimore City Department of Social Services, working there for nine years before becoming an instructor at Penn State University. Following four years at Penn State, Jay worked as a director for Concern, implementing a program he put together while in Baltimore, and for the Williamsport School District as the director of their alternative program. Jay also ran Schively Counseling Services for 25 years, retiring in 2010.
He was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the AIDS Alliance.
Jay enjoyed music and was a true Beatles enthusiast. He was fond of canoeing, kayaking and leatherwork. Jay was a dedicated fan of the Eagles, Phillies, Orioles, Ravens and Penn State, especially football and wrestling. He loved his cat Smudge and taking rides in the country.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and daughters-in-law, Noel Schively and Beth Chaney, of Baltimore and Todd and Misty Schively, of Mechanicsburg; and three grandchildren, Brehan, Connor and Kendall Schively.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Gail Ottenheimer.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main Street, Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ben Lander, of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Muncy Cemetery.
The family welcomes flowers, however, if desired memorial contributions can be made to either LAPS, 630 Wildwood Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Rd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
