Jeffery Vincent Furek, 59, of Muncy, died Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born December 16, 1961 in Berwick, he was a son of the late George Vincent Furek and JoAnn (Isdepski) Furek, who survives.

Jeffery was a 1979 graduate of Berwick High School, where he excelled as a linebacker. He was selected to play in the annual Big 33 Football Classic, involving Pennsylvania and Ohio’s best players. Upon graduation, he received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Delaware.

Jeffery served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1984 to 1988. He spent part of his service as a member of the Honor Guard at the White House, where he assisted at official functions such as welcoming world leaders and dignitaries as well as guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

He later earned an associate degree in Forestry from the former Williamsport Area Community College, now Penn College, Williamsport. Jeffery worked as a correctional officer at LSCI Allenwood, retiring after 20 years of service.

He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Muncy.

Jeffery enjoyed gardening and cooking in his free time. An outdoor enthusiast, he could be found fishing at some of his favorite spots on Muncy Creek or Fishing Creek and was a member of Highland Lake. Jeffery was also an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Surviving in addition to his mother of Hughesville are two children, Jacob Vincent Furek and Alexa Marie Furek, both of Pittsburgh; their mother, with whom he shared a close friendship, Patrice McNichol, of Northumberland; two sisters, Lisa (Steven) Murren, of Hughesville and Debra Boatman, of Muncy; niece, Renee Lehmann; two nephews, Kyle Murren and Ryan Boatman; two great-nieces, Alana Lehman and Natalie Ann Boatman; and a great-nephew, Lucas Christopher Boatman.

A Memorial mass was held privately at the convenience of the family.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Jeffery’s  memory be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charity, through www.myremembrance.com , which will provide the family with a personalized keepsake that lists every donor’s name who so graciously donated in his memory.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
