Joan E. Lee, 82, of Lewisburg was born February 13, 1943 in Harrisburg and died at home March 17, 2025.

She was a daughter of the late Herbert E. and Birdine K. (Kline) Enck. Joan graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1961 and Lock Haven University with a Bachelor’s of Education in 1965.

She received a Master’s of Education from Kutztown and went on to acquire additional credits at Mansfield University. Joan taught 1st and 2nd graders in the Owen J. Roberts School system of Montgomery County for 5 years, and 1st graders at Williamsport for two years. Later in life she was a substitute teacher at Lewisburg and other area school systems while also doing private tutoring.

April 6th, 1968 she became an Air Force wife marrying Sgt. John E. Lee of Lewisburg. In 1972 Joan changed careers to join her parent’s retail corporation doing business as The Children’s Center. Joan and John ran the Lock Haven store until 1985. After the death of her parents, she owned the Children’s Center in the Lee Building at 428 Market Street until the store closed in 2001. She worked 5 years for Sunflower Day Care in Lewisburg before retiring to be a full time pastor’s wife. She was an avid reader, who in days of better health enjoyed trips to Elk County and being a Civil War character of living history in the persona of Mary McCormick, wife of Bucktail Chaplain W. McCormick 150th P.V.I.

Joan is survived by her husband, one son, Kenneth and Sarah Rambo Lee, Lewisburg, one grandson, Matthew M. Lee, Lewisburg, two brothers, Dr. Robert and Martha Enck, and John and Sue Enck, Hollidaysburg, one sister, Linda Schwarz, Waco, Texas and cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26 in the Lewisburg Cemetery

The family is planning a memorial service and will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Joan’s name be made to St Paul’s UMC, 42 S. 4th St. Lewisburg, PA 17837.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.
