John Robert Dugan, 79, of Muncy, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born July 6, 1936 in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Mary J. (Frankenfield) Dugan. He and his wife, the former Velma Morin were married July 15, 1961. Together they celebrated nearly 55 years of marriage.
John was a 1954 graduate of Watsontown High School and a graduate of the former Harrisburg Barbering School. He served honorably with the U.S. Army.
John began his 61 year career as a barber when he opened his first Barber shop in Allenwood. He moved once to Danville, finally settling in Montgomery, where he operated Dugan’s Barber Shop till his retirement. After retirement he continued to work part time at Master’s Barber Shop in Danville.
John formerly attended St. John’s (Delaware Run) Lutheran Church, Watsontown.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed cutting wood, fishing and hunting. John was a lifetime member of the NRA. He loved attending flea markets and was a collector of many things. He was fond of cars and enjoyed driving the new hybrids. John also had a great devotion to his dogs.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, John T. Dugan and Sally Jellison, of both Muncy and Edgewater, NJ; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and William Dowdy, of Muncy; one sister, Patricia R. Dugan, of Muncy; and four grandchildren, Charlene Dugan, Michael Joseph Dowdy, Robert Thomas Dowdy and Jennifer Elise Dowdy.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Irvin and Joan McKinnon and one brother, Richard Dugan.
Friends will be received from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Sam Corderman, of East District Mennonite Church, Watsontown.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
