John R. Hessel, 58, a longtime resident of Montgomery, died suddenly Saturday, September 19, 2020 at his home.
He was born September 20, 1961in Muncy, a son of the late Elmer and Dorothy (Shadle) Hessel. On August 20, 1983, he married the former Robin Adams, who survives. Together they celebrated 37 years of marriage.
John was a 1979 graduate of Montgomery High School. He previously worked as a welder at the former New Columbia Joist Company.
In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball and was a former President of Montgomery Little League. John was fond of flea market flips and was known as Mr. Fix It. Most notably, he was an avid collector and fan of Dale Earnhardt.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and fiancé, Melissa Hessel and Justin Abernathy, of Watsontown; a son, Logan Hessel, of Montgomery; a grandson, Weston Cole Abernathy; three sisters, Janet Bender, of VA, Sharon Campbell, of Northumberland and Pamela Hoffman and her husband, Robert, of Montgomery; granddog, Penelope; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Deborah Rogers.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown. For everyone’s safety we ask that all attendees adhere to the social distancing guidelines and wear a mask.
Burial will be held privately in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
