John A. Walls Jr.

August 19, 1937 — July 13, 2018

John A. Walls, Jr., 80, of New Columbia, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born August 19, 1937 in Milton, a son of the late John A. Sr. and Bertha E. (Dunkle) Walls.  On July 2, 1955, he married the former Zona Robbins, who survives. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage.

John attended the former Central High School, New Columbia and in 1955 he bought the school house and has lived there since.

He served honorably in the National Guard.

Earlier in life, John worked for the Glen-Gery Masonry Supply Center, Watsontown. He later retired from the former American Home Foods, now ConAgra, Milton.

In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping fox and coyotes.   John was a member of the District 7 Trappers Association and was considered to be one of the finest trappers in the region.  Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, John Walls III and his wife, Debra, of State College, Jeffery Walls and his wife, Traci and Tammy Johnston, and her husband, Jerry, all of New Columbia; two sisters, Eleanor Finan, of Milton and Carolyn Baker and her husband, Gerald, of Lewisburg; nine grandchildren, Cameron, Harrison, Caleb, Dustin (Amanda) and Colby (Emily) Walls, Tauz (Tiffany) Bubb, Hashle, Matt (Claudia) and Chris (Daniele) Johnston; and five great-grandchildren, Tristyn and Teegan Bubb and Damon, Alexa and Skye Johnston.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters, Helen Robbins, Virginia Engle, Lena and Sandra Walls.

Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.

The family is being assisted by the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main Street, Watsontown.
