Juditha H. "Judy" Biggs

March 8, 1927 — March 8, 2018

Judith Heaslip “Judy” Biggs, 91, of Lewisburg, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

She was born March 8, 1927 in New York City, NY, a daughter of the late William J. and Clare I. (Wayman) Heaslip.

Her elementary education was at St. Paul’s Episcopal School, Rahway, NJ, and later, at Rahway High School. She attended Brooklyn Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, earning her R.N. Degree. In that capacity, she worked for Bucknell University, ministering to many students’ illnesses and misadventures. After retirement, she answered her muse, becoming a very talented artist and sculptress to frequent critical acclaim. She was an active member of the local Lewisburg arts community. Over the course of her life, she travelled the world extensively, including journeys throughout Europe, Japan, and Australia. She was an avid reader, as well as a strong supporter of animal rights groups.

Some of the happiest days of her later life were annual painting forays to Bailey’s Island in coastal Maine. Fittingly, her ashes are to be strewn near her favorite sketching spot overlooking the ocean.

Surviving are her brother, Allan Heaslip, of Richmond, VA; niece, Penny Matallana, of Staunton, VA; nephew, Rodger Studwell, of Westfield, NJ; niece, Megan Heaslip Blake, of Richmond, VA; and nephew, William Heaslip, of Staunton, VA.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Jacqueline Heaslip, of Staunton, VA.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg.
