June Woodling Houseknecht

March 12, 1926 — January 10, 2014

June Woodling Houseknecht, 87, of Muncy, died Friday, January 10, 2014 surrounded by her family at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.

Born March 12, 1926 in Montgomery, she was the second of thirteen children born to the late John S. and Edna P. (Metzger) Woodling.

June was a 1943 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School. She worked as a secretary and clerical worker at the former Sprout-Waldron, now Andritz, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She also worked as a school crossing guard at the corner of Penn and Washington streets, Muncy.

She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Muncy.

A humble woman, she was proud of two personal accomplishments; having her story of growing up with her siblings during the depression included in the local book Penny Candy and Grandma’s Porch Swing and receiving recognition for walking over 10,000 miles in her lifetime from the Susquehanna Striders. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, playing Yahtzee and putting puzzles together. Most of all June loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Karen Houseknecht, of Dunnstown; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Javier Vera, of Rancho Viejo, TX; five grandchildren, Sara (Mike) Richards, of S. Williamsport, Heather Houseknecht, of Australia, Adam, Kiley and Dana Vera, all of Texas; one great-granddaughter, Amelia June Richards; three brothers, Jack Woodling, of Hughesville, Kenny (Donna) Woodling, of Picture Rocks and Ronnie Woodling, of Chicago; three sisters, Mary (Jim) Shaffer, of Montgomery, Judy (Leon) Stugart, of Hughesville and Linda Clinger, of Milton; June’s former husband, Amos Houseknecht, of Muncy; and 33 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by one brother, Max Woodling and five sisters, Wanda Blaker, Lois Fraley, Phyllis Croman, Ruth Stump and Doris Eberhart.

Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Donald P. Edwards, officiating.

Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery.

June loved flowers, however; if desired memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Muncy, PA 17756.
