June 19, 1930 — April 4, 2016

June D. Solomon, 85, of Lewisburg, died Monday, April 4, 2016 at her home.

She was born June 19, 1930 in Union County, a daughter of the late Earl and Martha Mae (Koons) Catherman. June married her high school sweetheart, Jack E. Solomon, on January 9, 1951. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage.

June was a 1948 graduate of Lewisburg High School.

She worked as an administrative assistant at Royal Imprints, Inc., Citizen’s Electric and for the former county superintendent, now CSIU #16 for many years. Her main job and passion was caring for her family.

June was a life time member of Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg where she was very active in various functions of the church such as: church council, call committee, teaching Sunday school, altar guild and Women of the ELCA.

June also volunteered as a Museum guide for over 20 years at Packwood House and volunteered many years at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.  She was a member of the Lewisburg Hospital Auxiliary, Lewisburg Junior League and Lewisburg Alumni Association, where she was honored as distinguished alumni in 2007.  Earlier in life she was very active as a troop leader in the girl scouting program.  June enjoyed playing cards, bowling and was a member of a local bowling league. She loved music and dancing, especially country line dancing.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Kathy Roach and her husband, Donald, of Alburtis, Michael Solomon and his wife, Lori, of Orlando, FL and Gay Melnick and her husband Richard, of Brookeville, MD; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Irene Catherman, of Winfield; one sister, Sarah Fetter, of Lewisburg; four grandchildren, Sarah Hernandez, Tyler Roach, Brett and Kyle Melnick; and one great-grandchild, Aidan Roach.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Earl Catherman and one sister, Shirley Wehr.

Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, followed by the funeral at 3, with her pastor, the Rev. William S. Henderson officiating.

A private interment will be held in New Berlin Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St., Lewisburg.
