Karl E. Mccloskey

March 27, 1934 — June 28, 2019

Karl E. McCloskey, 85, of Muncy, passed into Eternity on Friday, June 28, 2019, at the Gatehouse, Williamsport, PA.

Born on March 27, 1934 in South Williamsport, Karl spent most of his childhood in the Home for the Friendless, later known as The Williamsport Home.

He attended Muncy High School before enlisting in the US Army and serving in the Korean War.

On Sep. 12, 1953, he married the former Helen Rita “Mickey” Barto, who survives. Together, Karl and Mickey celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Karl applied himself to everything he did, including building his own house from the ground up and becoming a master craftsman in the sheet metal trade. He retired after 42 years from Sprout-Waldron, now Andritz, Muncy. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Karl’s strong faith in Jesus Christ allowed him to rise above his own difficult childhood in order to become an involved and loving husband and father. He was passionate about raising and caring for his family, always putting them first.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Roy (Karen) McCloskey of Middletown, Thor (Cindy) McCloskey of Reading, and Hoyt McCloskey of Muncy; two sisters, Kathryn Harer of Montoursville and June Morehart of FL; six grandchildren, Jessica (Sam) Fisher, Shannon Scaletti, Patrick (Jessica) McCloskey, Alexandria (Michael) Christletti, Jasmine McCloskey and Blake McCloskey; and five great-grandchildren, Jude, August, Leo, Audrey and Kellan.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul McCloskey and a grandson, Ian McCloskey, with whom he had a very special relationship.

Karl was a founding member of Grace Baptist Church, Muncy, where he served humbly and faithfully. He enjoyed traveling on missions trips with his wife to New Mexico, Papua New Guinea and Venezuela.

Karl was an avid reader. His ability to recall facts and stories made him a wonderful storyteller.

More recently, Karl was recognized by the United States and the Republic of Korea for his devoted and selfless military service.

His legacy of strength, determination, faith and love will live on in his family who remain behind. Thank you, Karl, for your beautiful life.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St. Muncy, with his pastor, the Rev. Charles Teffeteller, officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Karl’s name be made to the Grace Baptist Church, 5471 Clarkstown Rd., Muncy, PA 17756.
