Kenneth E. Haynes

Kenneth E. Haynes, 89, of 144 W. Walnut St., Hughesville, died Thursday, April 2, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born January 22, 1931 in Hughesville, he was a son of the late Grover and Lillian (Fox) Haynes. On December 19, 1959 he married the former Arla Gottschall (Taggart), who survives. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Ken attended Hughesville schools. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War. He worked as a truck driver all his life, driving for several companies. Ken retired from Yellow Motor Freight in 1993.

He was recently baptized at Strawberry Ridge Trinity United Church of Christ.

Ken was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose #866 Muncy Valley, the Glenn Sharrow Post #35 American Legion, Hughesville and the Edward J. Smith Post 3428 V.F.W., Muncy.

He was an avid fan of sprint car racing and the Chicago Cubs. Ken enjoyed watching western movies, especially John Wayne. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Fay Polk, of Muncy, Doris King (Bill) of Hillsgrove, Shirley Glidewell (Stan) of Picture Rocks and Sandra Taggart (Buzz) of Williamsport; six grandchildren, Joyce Snyder, Linda Hendershot, Wes King, Walter King, Aaron King and Alan Glidewell; 12 great-grandchildren, Derek, Nickolas, Carli, Jessica, Izabella, Gracie, Josie, Nathan, Ethan, Riley, Colin and Lucas; one great-great-grandson, Tyler and one great-great-grandson on the way, Cole; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Elmer Polk; five siblings, Marguerite  “Ma” Wicks, Grover “Mike” Haynes, Roland “Pat” Haynes, Glenn “Wease” Haynes and Evelyn “Betty” Bower; and two nieces, Donna Peterman and Lena Haynes; and  two nephews, Gary Bower and Mickey Haynes.

Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Muncy Cemetery.
